World Health Organisation (WHO) director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Tuesday won the hearts of many at the inaugural ceremony of the WHO-Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar with his Gujarati.

Addressing the gathering, Ghebreyesus said, “Kemcho..majama..” and evoked a thunderous applause from everyone including Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was present on the stage.

On Tuesday, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar in the presence of the WHO director Ghebreyesus and the Mauritian prime minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

It is reported that the WHO’s Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) will be the first and only global outpost centre for traditional medicine across the world.

“India is taking this centre as a big responsibility for service to all of humanity. This centre will help in providing better medical solutions to the world with the support of traditional medicines,” the PM said.

“Our proposal of giving importance to millet has been accepted by UN and year 2023 will be celebrated as International Millet Year”, PM Modi added.

“I’ve known Dr Tedros for a long time & every time we have met, he has mentioned his learnings from his Indian teachers with such prestige, expressed his sentiments with such cheer, that his affection for India is visible in the form of an Institute today,” he further added.

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Union AYUSH minister Sarbananda Sonowal were also present in the function.
