Rijiju recently took to Twitter to share a snippet of Sarok festival, a celebratory
day for the Akas community of Arunachal Pradesh.
The short video clip showcases Rijiju
being welcomed by a group of people, including an indigenous woman who adorned the minister with a traditional red scarf.
Rijiju, who visited the Bana village
in the district of East Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh shared the video
on Twitter and wrote, “A small clip of colorful Sarok Festival of the Akas at Bana in
East Kameng Dist. of Arunachal Pradesh. We are nothing without our original
culture”.
The video has amassed over
13,000 views and nearly 2,000 likes. One user wrote, “ambassador of love and
unity. More power to you sir”.
Rijiju, who is also the
ambassador of the state, highlighted the significance of the festival and the
importance of remembering one’s cultural roots. The minister also shared three
pictures from the celebrations.

Sarok festival is a cultural
celebration in the local community of the East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The celebration is observed by locals who dress up in colorful and vibrant attires.
The festival involves dancing, street processions and offering prayers. On the occasion,
the women of the community sport a red and white ensemble and perform local
folk dance in groups. Sarok is the day of paying gratitude to Mother Earth for
the protection of mankind. It highlights the bond of the indigenous community with
nature.

Apart
from Rijiju, Pema Khandu, the chief minister of the state also sent his
greetings to the community and offered prayers.
Furthermore, he lauded the Akas
community for sustaining the ages-old tradition and keeping the cultural
heritage alive.
Governor BD Mishra also
conveyed his greetings on the occasion and hoped for the festivities to unfold
with peace and prosperity.
