Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis and will undergo surgery for the same in Mumbai, the franchise confirmed on Sunday.

Mayank Agarwal will lead the team in Rahul’s absence, starting with tonight’s match against Delhi Capitals.
“KL Rahul complained of severe abdomen pain last night and after not responding to medication, he was taken to emergency room for further tests which revealed that he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis,” the team said in a statement.

“It will be resolved surgically and for safety measures, he has been transferred to the hospital for the same.”
Rahul is the current holder of the Orange Cap, the award for the leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League. He has scored 331 runs in seven innings, including four fifties, at an average of 66.20.
He brought up his highest score, of 91, twice this season – once against the Rajasthan Royals and once against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
