, veteran Telugu actor and former Union Minister, who is also the uncle of
actor Prabhas, died following a brief illness on Sunday. He was 83 years old
and is survived by his three daughters. Through his five-decade-long career,
Krishnam Raju appeared on the screen in many avatars. Starting out as a hero,
he also started taking on ‘negative’ roles. His acting style earned him the
moniker ‘Rebel Star’

Brahmana was in many ways the turning point of Krishnam Raju’s acting career. Directed
by K Raghavendra Rao, Bobbili Brahmana released in 1984. The film featured
Krishnam Raju along with Jayasudha, Chalapati Rao, Sarathi and Krishnaveni.

Deepam:
A 1977 release,
Amara Deepam is the second K Raghavendra Rao film to feature in Krishnam Raju’s
list of five hit films. A remake of the Tamil film Dheepam which was a remake
of the Malayalam film Theekkanal, Amara Deepam earned Krishnam Raju the
Filmfare Best Actor award as well as the Nandi Award for Best Actor.

Tarangalu

Chitti Babu directorial venture, Prema Tarangalu released in 1980. The film is
a remake of the Bollywood hit Muqaddar Ka Sikandar starring Amitabh Bachchan
and Vinod Khanna. Prema Tarangalu stars Krishnam Raju alongside Jayasudha and
Chiranjeevi.

Chilaka
Gorinka:
Released
in 1966, this Telugu film was directed by Kotayya Pratyagatma. The film won the
Nandi Award for the Best Feature Film from the Andhra Pradesh government. This
was Krishnam Raju’s debut film and the beginning of a 55-year-long career.
