Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that his
sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will not stop the “non-violent protest for truth”
and called her “fearless” and a “true Congressi”. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
has been in detention since early morning Monday. Vadra, who was detained while
she was on her way to meet the families of farmers who were killed in the
violence at Lakhimpur Kheri, said earlier this morning that she has been in
detention for over 28 hours.

Opposition parties have slammed the government after a
protest over farm laws in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district left eight
people, including four farmers dead, after a car ran over some of them. Union
Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra’s son has been named in a murder
case after the farmers alleged that the minister’s son was driving the car that
hit the farmers.

Rahul Gandhi, 49, posted a tweet in Hindi on Tuesday
morning saying, “She who has been kept in arrest, she doesn’t fear — she is a
true Congressi. She won’t give up.”

In detention since Monday morning, Priyanka Gandhi also uploaded a video addressing the Prime Minister. In the video, Gandhi called upon the Prime Minister to watch a video that shows an SUV ramming a group of protestors.

In the video, Priyanka Gandhi asks Prime Minister Modi who is scheduled to be in Lucknow on Tuesday to come to Lakhimpur Kheri. She asks the prime minister why Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra has not been sacked.

Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi posted a
tweet
tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying, “your government has kept me
in custody for the last 28 hours without any order and FIR. This person who crushed
the annadata (farmers) has not been arrested yet. Why?”

Slamming the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh
government, Priyanka Gandhi further said, “Detain me for six months or six
years…no problem”, NDTV reported.
