Actor Abhishek Bachchan revealed that his motivation to act in the
upcoming movie ‘Ludo’ was his admiration of director Anurag Basu’s on-screen quirky,
innocent world, which led him to sign the project without even reading a script brief.

In a recent interview with PTI over Zoom, Bachchan said that he
came onboard without knowing anything about his character and got committed to
the movie instantly, when it was just in planning stage, two years ago.

“I just showed up. I didn’t even know the character is a
father. It was only during the time I would go to his office for fittings; he’d
tell me bits and pieces about the story. But I am accustomed to working like
that, so it wasn’t scary for me” said Abhishek.

The ‘Bunty Bubbly’ actor opine that this role provided him an opportunity
to get out of the traditional norms of rehearsing the character and realised
why director Basu doesn’t favour giving too much information to his actors.

Adding on to it, Bachchan said “He doesn’t want to inhibit or
shackle you in any direction. He tells you the situation, and lets you
interpret the way he wants. He gives an environment and looks for an unrehearsed
response to a situation.”

Commenting on Basu’s way
with the direction, the actor articulated that there is nobody he trusts more with
the way of storytelling before camera.

“There’s a quirky outlook to life which comes out in his films.
He says something profound simply and innocently, through a particularly colored
lens. It’s a pleasant experience,” said Abhishek.

The ‘Manmarziya’ actor, who was evidently overawed with Basu’s optimistic outlook, further said, “Anurag
doesn’t make you realize the severity of what he has said to you, because he
says it by putting a smile on your face, which is the best and most efficient
way to make a point.”
