Dr Vinod Kumar Bind of the Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal has won the Majhawan assembly constituency defeating Rohit Shukla of the Samajwadi Party (SP) by a margin of 22,020 votes.

Majhawan assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh was won by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2017 assembly elections. In this constituency, the BJP’s Suchismita Maurya defeated her nearest contender, Ramesh Chand Bind of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), by a margin of 41,159 votes.

The BJP won 312 of the 403 assembly seats in 2017, forming an absolute majority in the state assembly and out-powering the Samajwadi Party. The BJP chose Yogi Adityanath to be the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) came second behind the BJP, winning just 47 assembly seats, Mayawati-led BSP was third with 19 seats and the Congress (INC) won mere seven seats.

As per the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 2008, Majhawan is the constituency number 397 of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, India. It is an open constituency.

It is one of five assembly constituencies in the Mirzapur Lok Sabha constituency. Anupriya Singh Patel from Apna Dal (Sonelal) is the current Member of Parliament (MP) from the Majhawan Lok Sabha constituency.

In the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party had formed the government with 224 seats, the BSP was second, winning 80 seats, the BJP had won 47, and the INC 28.

In the Assembly elections 2012, the Bahujan Samaj Party won the Majhawan assembly constituency by a margin of 9,729 votes. The winning BSP candidate Ramesh Chand Bind got 83,870 votes and the runner-up Rajendra Prasad (SP) got 74,141 votes. The voter turnout was 63.18%.
