Mallika Sherawat has opened up about missed opportunities in the past, claiming that most of the snubs were due to no fault of her own.

Sherawat, who wasn’t a part of the film Welcome Back, said the only reason she wasn’t signed for the sequel was because of the director’s bias.

Welcome Back was a sequel to the 2007-hit comedy Welcome and featured a star-studded lineup including Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Paresh Rawal, Shruti Haasan, Shiney Ahuja, Dimple Kapadia and Naseeruddin Shah.

Sherawat was part of the original film cast which also featured Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.

Both the films were directed by Anees Bazmee.

Mallika Sherawat told Pinkvilla the only reason she wasn’t cast in the second film was because the director wanted to cast his girlfriend instead.

The actor refused to reveal names but said “this is true. When they make a sequel they cast their girlfriend, the hero casts his girlfriend, what do I do then? I don’t have any boyfriend in Bollywood, I have never been with any actor, director or producer.”

This isn’t the first time Mallika Sherawat has claimed being a victim of biases in the industry.

In 2019, she claimed to have been replaced by the girlfriends of male actors she was supposed to work with.

The actor’s next project is a hard-hitting thriller series ‘Nakaab’ that talks about the death of an actor followed by a blame game and a drug angle.

Sounds familiar? The storyline reminds one of the incidents that shook the entertainment industry last year, right? Well, for Mallika, the show is a reflection of what’s happening in the society.

In an exclusive with Opoyi she said “Nakaab is even more relevant today because of what’s happening around us, the death last year and again this year, and that’s what we are showing in the series so it’s very relevant and youth would relate to it.”

Mallika plays the role of TV and film producer Zohra Mehra in the MX player series that is set to release on September 15.
