Remembering his father Rajiv Gandhi on his 76th birth anniversary on Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi described his father a ‘man with tremendous vision’.

“Rajiv Gandhi was a man with a tremendous vision, far ahead of his times. But above all else, he was a compassionate and loving human being.I am incredibly lucky and proud to have him as my father. We miss him today and everyday,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted in the morning.

The former Congress president also visited Veer Bhumi, Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial in New Delhi, to pay tribute.

In a series of tweets, the Congress highlighted the major achievements of Rajiv Gandhi, who became India’s youngest prime minister at 40 in 1984.

“Through is diplomatic policies Shri Rajiv Gandhi took our nation to the zenith. We stood as equals to world superpowers during his term as Prime Minister,” the Congress tweeted along with a video.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too paid tribute to the former PM. “On his birth anniversary, tributes to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji,” PM Modi tweeted.

Rajiv Gandhi, who was prime minister between 1984-89, was born on August 20, 1944. He was assassinated by the LTTE during an election campaign on May 21, 1991.
