Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi and many other public figures wished Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery after the former Finance Minister tested positive for COVID-19. He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here mild fever, PTI reports. 

“Wishing our former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh Ji good health and a speedy recovery,” PM Modi tweeted.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also wished his colleague a ‘speedy recovery’. “India needs your guidance and advice in this difficult time,” he wrote.

Singh, 88, has been admitted to the AIIMS trauma centre, which is a dedicated COVID facility, sources said, adding his condition is stable, PTI said.

They said Singh had a mild fever in the morning and later tested positive for COVID-19. The doctors are monitoring Singh’s condition. He had taken both the doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

National Conference leaders Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah also wished Singh a speedy recovery from the coronavirus infection.

“Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and all JKNC colleagues wish Dr Manmohan Singh a speedy and complete recovery from COVID,” a spokesman of the National Conference said.

He said Singh’s “wise and sagacious advice is greatly required in the months and years ahead as the nation battles multiple challenges”.

Singh had on Sunday written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggesting five measures to battle the COVID-19 crisis, including ramping up vaccination and boosting the supply of medicines.

In a letter to the prime minister, the veteran Congress leader said one must not look at absolute numbers but the total percentage of the population that has been vaccinated.
