Meerut South assembly constituency has Dr Somendra Tomar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Kunwar Dilshad Ali of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Nafees Saifi of the Congress and Mo. Aadil of the Samajwadi Party (SP) this year in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
Dr Somendra Tomar had won the Meerut South seat in 2017, as the BJP swept Uttar Pradesh winning 312 of UP’s 403 assembly seats. Tomar had beaten his closest rival Haji Mohammad Yaqub by a margin of 35,395
votes. Yaqub had contested that election on a BSP ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Ravindra Bhadana of the BJP.
Meerut South falls under Meerut district and the Meerut Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of five assembly seats – four of these are in the Meerut district and one in the Hapur district.

In Meerut South, BJP has won three times and the Congress has won four times since the 1977 elections.
The Meerut South assembly constituency will vote in the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections on February 10, 2022, along with 57 other constituencies in 11 districts. Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven rounds, with the last round on March 3.

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including neighbouring Uttarakhand.
