Just minutes after registration for coronavirus vaccination of those above 18 began at 4 pm on Wednesday, the portal crashed, possibly because the massive traffic on the server. People who had downloaded CoWin application were also not able to register because the OTP facility seems to have been hit. Many across social media complained about the crash and one-time passwords (OTPs). Some users tweeted about failing to find the field to enter the OTP and others shared screenshots of the portal showing error. The registration was earlier schedule to begin at April 28 midnight but people faced the same problem.

The Centre on Sunday had made it compulsory for those in the 18-45 age group to register themselves in the CoWin application, saying that walk-in vaccinations would not be allowed, in order to avoid a ‘chaos’ in immunisation centres.
The Centre had opened coronavirus vaccination for those above 18 in its third phase of vaccination programme. India is currently battling the second wave of coronavirus, reporting over three lakh infections everyday. The death toll due to the deadly virus crossed the two lakh mark on Wednesday.
