Incessant rains
continue to batter Maharashtra as the state sees its highest July rainfall in
the last 40 years.  The monstrous monsoon
has taken tens of lives, flooded homes, cut off power supply in large parts of
the state and has effectively brought life to a standstill in many parts.

On Friday,
at least 36 people died in landslides in Raigarh district, around 70
kilometers from Mumbai, and the state administration has deployed choppers to
rescue people stuck in the floods.

· Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that he has ordered
evacuation and relocation of people who are living in areas where there is a
possibility of landslide, reports ANI.

· The coastal town of Chiplun in Ratnagiri district, located nearly 250
kilometers away from Mumbai, has seen water levels rise to 12 feet following 24
hours of uninterrupted rainfall. The Vashishti river is overflowing and roads
and homes have been submerged.

· NDRF (National Disaster Relief Force) and other rescue teams are
struggling to reach Chiplun as the roads and bridges are damaged, the Maharashtra
chief minister said.

· Eight people have died and 7 are missing in Satara district due to the
rains

·  Mumbai, the state capital, saw immense downpour till Thursday. Dozens of
people have died in landslides in India’s financial capital due to the heavy
downpour

· The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted that heavy
rainfall is likely to continue in the state for the next few days.

·       
Several other states in India are also seeing very heavy rainfall over
the last few days. Floods and flood-like inundation have been reported from Goa,
Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Odisha too is seeing very heavy
rainfall.

· Several parts of Telangana, including catchment areas of Godavari and Krishna
remain submerged. The water levels of both these rivers are rising at alarming
levels.

· Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, popularly known as KCR,
has called for a permanent solution to floods in the state. Much of northern
Telangana is seeing very heavy rainfall.

· Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited flood-hit areas of the state on
Friday. Several parts of Goa along Mandovi river are inundated after torrential
downpour on Thursday.
