The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 started on Sunday,
October 18. A total of 16 countries are participating in the event, which is
being played in two phases.

In the first phase, eight teams in two groups contested for a place in the second phase, the Super 12
round. Two teams from Group A – Sri Lanka and Namibia – and B – Scotland and Bangladesh – entered Groups 1 and 2
in the Super 12 round respectively.

The Super 12 groups have Australia, England, South Africa and the West
Indies in the first group, while Afghanistan, India, New Zealand and Pakistan
have been included in the second group. 

The Super 12 round started on Saturday, October 23, with
Australia defeating South Africa by 5 wickets. In the second match, West Indies
lost to England by 6 wickets. The West Indies cricket team collapsed against for a mere
total of 55 runs.

England and Australia have progressed into the semi-finals from Group 1, both having won four and lost one from five Super 12 matches. South Africa also finished level on points with both teams, but finished below Australia on net run rate. 

Meanwhile, Pakistan were the first team to book their place in the semis from Group 2, with Afghanistan, New Zealand and India locked in a tight race for the final spot. The other semi-finalist from the group will be decided on Sunday, when Afghanistan take on New Zealand in an all-important match. 

A win for the Kiwis will book their berth in the last four, while victory for the Afghans can set up their or India’s qualification.
