Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw on Thursday hit a double century against Puducherry in the ongoing Vijay Hazare trophy. The 21-year-old batsman belongs to Thane in Maharashtra and made his first international appearance on October 4, 2018. He became the second-youngest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to score a Test century.

In his first stint
as the Mumbai captain, Shaw scored the double century off just 42 balls. He had
earlier scored 105 runs on February 21 against Delhi.

Partnering with
fellow batsman Surya Kumar Yadav, Shaw took Mumbai to the mammoth total of
457/4 against Puducherry.

This score, till now, is the highest list A total. The total beat the previous record of 422 set by Jharkhand earlier in the season against Madhya Pradesh.

Not the first
cricket prodigy from Mumbai to turn heads, Shaw were noticed first for his
huge 546-run innings in the Harris Shield as a 14-year-old.

Shaw scored centuries on debut in both Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, a feat achieved previously only by Sachin Tendulkar.

Moving closer to Mumbai from Virar in 2006 with his father to follow his cricketing passion, Shaw started playing in the MIG ground in Bandra.

This indicated an upwards direction for young Shaw, who stared playing A division cricket at a rather young age of eight.

IPL has largely been the big, launch platform for Shaw, who was bought with a Rs 1.2 crore price by Delhi Capitals. Entering the playing XI, however, was difficult for him.

The chance came through poor form on part of Gautam Gambhir, which catapulted Shaw on to the stage, and the latter too used the platform on most occassions, putting Delhi Capital to a brisk opening spree in several matches.

The long-awaited breakthrough into the national side for the Mumbai-bred batsman came in the form of a chance to perform  against West Indies in Rajkot on October 4, 2018. Shaw made the chance work, scoring a 99-ball century.

The event seemingly triggered a long series of positives for Shaw, arguably a common name in consideration for selectors at present, as he looks forward towards a gleaming future and a long cricketing journey.
