Mumbai students, who have got admissions to foreign universities and need to get vaccinated against COVID-19 before travelling, will be inoculated on priority, the Maharashtra government said.

The students, going abroad to study, need to show documents of confirmed admissions to be eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine at one of the three centres, run by the BMC, that will be inoculating them, the state government said.

Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra cabinet minister Aditya Thackeray in a tweet on Friday said, “For students who have received confirmation of admission in universities abroad and require vaccines for the same, the @mybmc has arranged free, walk-in vaccination this coming Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (31st May, 1st, 2nd June) at 3 centres – Rajawadi, Cooper and Kasturba.”

“The students need to carry I- 20 or DS- 160 form/ verified confirmation letter to concerned foreign universities, along with personal id documents. This admission and vaccine affecting careers, we are duty bound to vaccinate them in the required time,” he said in another tweet.

“I will also be speaking to other municipal corporations across Maharashtra to implement the same for students in and around those cities with confirmation letters for universities abroad, to implement the same. The numbers are small, but their career opportunities can’t be missed,” Aditya Thackeray said. 

In Mumbai, 8.53 lakh out of 11 lakh people aged over 60 have at least received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while people in the age of 45-60, nine lakh of total 19 lakh are yet to receive a single shot of vaccine, according to the BMC. 

Mumbai on Friday reported 929 cases of COVID-19, the lowest since March 2. A total of 30 people died, the lowest since April 30, from the COVID-19 disease on Friday.
