The eighth day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Mahagauri, the eighth Avatar of Durga.
Maa Mahagauri was born to kill demons and for the victory of good over evil. She killed demons Shubh and Nishumbh. She is the goddess of purity and represents inner beauty in every living being. The word Maha means great and the word Gauri means radiant or fair, hence the name Mahagauri.
Maa Mahagauri Puja Muhurat
The sunrise timing for the day is 06:20 am and the sun will set at 5:53 pm.
The Maha Ashtami tithi will start on October 12 at 9:47 PM and will last till 8:07 PM on October 13.
The moonrise timings are 1:33 PM and the moon will set at 24:00 AM.
Ashtami Puja Color
For Navrati’s Ashtami Pujan purple color is suitable as it is the color of intelligence and peace. It should be worn on the day of Maa Mahagauri.
Maa Mahagauri Puja Vidhi
On this day, young girls are invited home and offered an auspicious meal as a part of the puja. The prayer ritual is called Kanjak puja.
Devotees should take an early bath and wear clean clothes.Havan is organised in temples and houses.
A kalash is placed near Goddess idol
Pan and Supari is offered to Goddess.
White Flowers are offered, preferably Gurhal or Jasmine flowers.
Lamps of ghee are lit in front of the idol.
Shri Durga Saptshati Path is recited.
Mantras of Maa Mahagauri are chanted.
Aarti is performed and Bhog is offered in the morning as well in the evening.
Maa Mahagauri Puja Significance
Mahagauri takes the troubles away from her devotees. Goddess bestows people with auspiciousness spiritual enlightenment and grants salvation. Maha Ashtami is the day when devotees should pray for the removal of sufferings from their life.
