Navjot Singh Sidhu will continue as the president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), AICC in-charge of the state Harish Rawat said on Friday.

The cricketer-turned-politician has been at the centre of the political crisis in Punjab in recent months, which resulted in Captain Amarinder Singh begin replaced by Charanjit Singh Channi as the chief minister of state after a falling out with Sidhu.

Sidhu resigned as the PCC president on September 28, days after Channi was sworn-in. He posted his resignation on Twitter.

Earlier today, Sidhu met former Congress president Rahul Gandhi at his residence in New Delhi.

“He shared his concerns with Rahul Gandhi. We have told him that his concerns will be taken care of here. He assured Rahul Gandhi that he has withdrawn his resignation and he will resume his duties as the PCC president,” Rawat was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Speaking after the meeting, Sidhu said, “I shared all my concerns with Rahul Gandhi. Everything has been sorted out.”

The meeting comes a day after an hour-long meeting with AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal and party general secretary incharge of Punjab affairs Harish Rawat at the AICC headquarters amid indications that he may continue as state Congress chief.

“I have placed my concerns to party high command, I have full trust that whatever party president, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra decide, it will be for Punjab. I consider them supreme and follow their orders,” Sidhu said after that meeting.

A party source confirmed the retraction of Sidhu’s resignation  to NDTV. “A formal decision is expected tomorrow. Sidhu has retracted from his belligerent position of resigning as PCC chief,” the source said.

Sidhu tendered his resignation after a disagreement with Channi over the cabinet reshuffle, however, he was back on board with the chief minister after an agreement was reached between the two.

Sidhu was first appointed as PCC president in July.
