Suraj Kumar Dubey, a 26-year-old navy sailor, succumbed to injuries on Friday after he was set on fire by three unidentified people in the jungles of Vevaji in Palghar district of Maharashtra, reported ANI quoting the police.
Dubey, who was posted at INS Agrani near Coimbatore, died while he was being shifted to a hospital in Mumbai on Friday.
According to Palghar SP Dattatray Shinde, the navy official was abducted in Chennai on January 30. He was burnt alive following unfulfillment of kidnappers’ demand for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh.

On Friday morning, the abductors tied his hands and legs and set him on fire in jungles near Gholvad and fled, police said.
Dubey managed to run away and with the help of some locals, reached Dahanu Primary Health Centre.
As he had more than 90% burn injuries, he was rushed to the naval hospital in Mumbai but he died on the way, police said.
Before dying, he narrated the ordeal to police, Navadkar said.
“A case has been registered against three unidentified persons and a probe has been initiated,” Shinde added.
Dubey was a resident of Ranchi in Jharkhand.
