Putting
an end to speculation around the new strain of coronavirus that was reported in United Kingdom, the Niti Ayog on Tuesday confirmed that the mutation of virus has
not been observed in India, news agency ANI reported.

“The new strain or mutation of Coronavirus seen in the United Kingdom has not been seen in India,” said Dr. VK Paul, Member of Niti Ayog in a press briefing.

Ever since the emergence of the mutant coronavirus in the UK, health experts around the world have been skeptical about its adverse impact on the efficacy of developing vaccines.  

Addressing the concern on vaccines, VK Paul said, ” It has no impact on the potential of the emerging vaccines being developed in our country and are available in other countries.”

The new variant of the virus, majorly found in UK is said to be 70% more infectious than the one which caused the pandemic.

In past few days, it been found in Italy and Netherlands as well, raising speculation about it not remaining confined to the British Isles in coming days.
