The National Investigation Agency (NIA)
on Saturday night arrested a Mumbai Police officer named Sachin Waze in connection
to last month’s discovery of an explosive-filled vehicle in front of the residence
of industrialist Mukesh Ambani. Waze was interrogated for over 12 hours before
the arrest took place, reported PTI, further noting that he reached the agency’s
office in Mumbai’s Cumballa Hill earlier on Saturday to record his statement
regarding the subject.

“Sachin Waze arrested at 2350
hrs in NIA Case RC/1/2021/NIA/MUM,” the NIA spokesperson was quoted as
saying.

Waze has further been facing
questions over the death of Thane-based businessman Mansukh Hiran, who was in
possession of the Scorpio found in front of Ambani’s house on February 25.

The car contained several gelatin
sticks and a threat letter.

Reportedly an ‘encounter specialist’,
Waze’s statement was recorded on Saturday as two other officials, crime branch
ACP Nitin Alaknure and ATS ACP Shripad Kale, were also called on to share information
about the investigation as well as the alleged murder of Hiran.

Both of them left the office after
nearly four hours.

Waze, who was accused earlier by Hiran’s
wife of having been involved in the businessman’s death, was removed from the
crime branch earlier this week.
