Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain confirmed on Monday that there will be no reimposition of a lockdown in the city “as the third wave of coronavirus cases has passed its peak,” ANI reported.

“There will be no reimposition of lockdown in Delhi. I don’t think it will be an effective step now,” ANI quoted Jain as saying.

He further insisted on people’s compliance with health-safety protocols such as social distancing and mask-wearing as the best way to get the virus under control.

“The third wave of COVID-19 has passed its peak in Delhi, cases will now reduce,” he added.

This comes
after Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday called a meeting with top
government officials
to take stock of the COVID-19 situation in the national
capital.

Jain, along with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister
Arvind Kejriwal and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, was present
at the meeting.

Shah reviewed
the situation and discussed strategies to curb the rising cases in the city. Chief
Minister Arvind Kejriwal later said that the Centre had assured of providing
750 additional ICU beds at the DRDO centre.

Delhi
recorded 7,340 cases on Saturday and a record high of 8,593 cases on Wednesday.
Last week, Jain said that the third wave of COVID-19 cases in the city would
last 4-5 days.
