The new set of guidelines issued by Mumbai’s civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) exempts passengers
who are 65 years of age, women in advanced stage of pregnancy, both parents
accompanying children aged below five from institutional quarantine.

According to the new guidelines, vaccinated flyers from UK,
Europe, Middle East, South Africa, and Brazil will no longer be required to
complete the mandatory week long institutional quarantine upon arrival in
Mumbai.

Earlier, the passengers with a
final destination in Maharashtra, arriving or transiting from flights
originating from these countries had to undergo a compulsory institutional
quarantine of seven days irrespective of a negative report before boarding the
flight at a state-designated facility.

Flyers with the need of
immediate medical attention such as cancer, severe physical disability, mental
illness and cerebral palsy can also skip the mandatory institutional quarantine
if they have supporting medical documents.

Medical professionals travelling
for conducting life-saving surgery or attend to critical patients need to
provide proof from the hospital where they are to perform the surgery or
provide medical service to be exempted from the mandatory institutional
quarantine.

The passengers will have to undergo 7 days of institutional quarantine as well as 7
days of home quarantine if they do not fall under any of the categories
mentioned in the new set of advisories given by Mumbai’s civic body BMC.

Maharashtra and other states have reported a surge in the
coronavirus cases. The most number of daily cases had been reported in Mumbai
on Friday inciting a new nationwide wave.
