Nungba assembly constituency has Dinganglung Gangmei of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Gaikhangam of the Indian National Congress (INC) this year in the Manipur assembly elections. 

Gaikhangam of the INC had won the Nungba seat in 2017 when the INC swept Manipur winning 28 of Manipur’s 60 assembly seats. He had beaten his closest rival Adim Pamei by over 5,147 votes. Pamei had contested that election on a BJP ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Gaikhangam of the INC.  

Nungba falls under the Tamenglong district and the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of 28 assembly seats.

Lorho S. Pfoze of  Naga People’s Front represented Outer Manipur as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Pfoze defeated Houlim Shokhopao Mate from the BJP with a margin of  73,782 votes.

The Nungba assembly constituency voted in the second phase of the Manipur elections on March 5, 2022, along with 21 other constituencies. 

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttar Pradesh.
