People have been celebrating the seventh edition of World Emoji Day today. Emojis have become an integral part of our lives, filling textual communication with tones and emotions that couldn’t have been possible with just plain sentences. Thanks to their ever-growing usage, emojis have begun to be designed following inclusivity and a wide range of emotions. From happy to sad and everything in between, you’ll find an emoji for it all. So, it’s only right to celebrate a day dedicated to these little wonders of technology that have become our best friends over the last few years.

Twitter emoji fest
On World Emoji Day, Twitter shared statistics regarding the most used commonly emojis on social media. The insights follow the record of usage in India from June 1, 2021, to June 30, 2021.
According to a report in Financial Express, on #WorldEmojiDay in 2020, 695K conversations from 146K unique authors in India were recorded, with a 93% positive/neutral sentiment.
It isn’t surprising that the laughing emoji bagged the top position in 2021. Well, if nothing, it speaks a lot about our positive emotions despite the dire times.
This one is followed by the prayer emoji, crying emoji, thumbs up emoji, ROFL (or tilted laughing) emoji, heart eyes emoji, pleading face emoji, smile emoji, fire emoji, and finally the grinning emoji with smiling eyes.

The analysis dived deeper into six kinds of conversations and found that the flexed bicep was used the most in those related to sports and fitness. While, conversations on hobbies and activities found camera/photography emoji being used the most, followed by the dancing one, the ones around nature saw the emoji of the rose being most popularly used. Another category on conversations that involve appreciation, the 100 point emoji made it to the top.
According to Twitter, conversations around the COVID-19 pandemic witnessed the prayer emoji becoming the most popularly used emoji, followed by the wear a mask emoji, SOS emoji, stay home emoji and hospital emoji.
