Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow last year. Out of the many vows made at the conference, the “Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE) Movement” will be launched on June 5, the World Environment Day.

Modi will be launching the new initiative via video conference on Friday, the Prime Minister’s office announced. The flagship event will include a “LiFE global call for papers” from academics, universities and research institutions.

The purpose of the papers will be to influence and persuade individuals, communities and organisations across the world to adopt an environment-conscious lifestyle, news agency PTI reported.

The idea promotes an environment-conscious lifestyle that focuses on “mindful and deliberate utilisation” instead of “mindless and destructive consumption”, Modi said at the COP26 summit in 2021.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to deliver a keynote address before officially launching the programme on Friday. The address is expected to revolve around this year’s World Environment Day theme.

Famous business owners, philanthropists and influencers are expected to participate in the Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE) Movement.

These include Bill Gates, Co-Chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, climate economist Lord Nicholas Stern, Nudge theory author Cass Sunstein, World Resources Institute CEO and president Aniruddha Dasgupta, UNEP Global Head Inger Andersen, UNDP Global Head Achim Steiner and World Bank president David Malpass, PTI reported.
