One person died while five others were injured after a godown collapsed in Harihar compound of Mankoli in Thane’s Bhiwandi on Monday, reported ANI. Fire brigade, Police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached the spot to make rescue operations and search for people trapped underneath.

Thane civic body’s regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam told the Times of India that the structure collapsed at 10.30 am.

The only person who died has been identified as Saurabh Tripathi, a security guard.  A person rescued till now has been identified as Shailesh Tara.

Mankoli and other parts of Bhiwandi are home to thousands of warehouses of several multinational companies. 

Over 40 people had died after a 43-year old Jilani building in the Patel Compound area in Bhiwandi collapsed. While two civic officials had been suspended in connection with the incident, offences under sections 337, 338, 304 (2) of the IPC had been registered against the building’s owner Sayyed Ahmed Jilani.
