As polling began on Tuesday for Assembly elections in four states and a union territory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a multilingual appeal for the “people in these places to vote in record numbers.” Polling is being held in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.

He made the appeal in Bengali, Assamese, Malayalam, and Tamil.

Polling is being held for 475 seats in four states and the UT of Puducherry. 

In West Bengal, polling is being held in the third phase. 475 candidates are in the fray including BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta, state minister Ashima Patra and CPI(M) leader Kanti Ganguly.

In Kerala, polling is being held in a single-phase in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Voters are casting their vote for the 140-member Assembly in Kerala, 234-member Assembly in Tamil Nadu and 30-member Assembly in Puducherry.
