Opposition MPs demanded the removal of Ajay
Mishra over the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh,
allegedly by his son Ashish Mishra, who has been in jail since the October 3
incident.

A recent investigation revealed that the
SUV driven by his son ran over the farmers at the protest site was a “planned
conspiracy” and asked for new charges against Asish Mishra. The farmers were
crushed “with intent to commit murder” and it was “not death by
negligence”, the report said.

Though opposition parties called on Prime
Minister Narendra Modi to remove Ajay Mishra from the ministry, the ruling BJP
has ruled out any such move, arguing that a “father cannot be held
responsible for his son’s actions”.

The Congress and other opposition parties
have said their protests will continue until the government sacks Ajay Mishra
from the ministry.
