Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday told the fishermen community that everything mentioned in the party’s manifesto is not just a promise, but also a guarantee. He was addressing the fishermen in Goa while he was launching his party’s campaign for the 2022 Assembly elections.

“We fought elections in Chhattisgarh and promised to waive the loan of farmers and we did it. You can go and confirm it in Punjab, Karnataka also. Whatever goes in our manifesto is a guarantee, not only a promise,” Times Now reported Rahul Gandhi as saying.

He said that the Congress’ “response to BJP’s hatred, anger and division is love and affection”.

Raking up the fuel price issue, Rahul Gandhi said that the Centre is helping “4-5 business” by the fuel price hike.

“During the UPA government, international fuel prices reached $140 per barrel. Today fuel prices are much lower in the international market but still you pay more. Today India is taxing fuel the highest in the world. If you look carefully there are 4-5 businessmen who are benefitting from this,” Gandhi said.

Talking about the assurances made by the Congress, he said, “My credibility is important to me. Unlike many other leaders, when I say something here, I will make sure it happens.” “If I come here I say to you that we will not allow coal hub and I don’t do it, next time I come here I will have no credibility,” he said in his address to the fishermen, who are opposing the project of double tracking of South Western Railway as they allege that it is an attempt to turn the state into a coal hub.

Gandhi said that the party has fulfilled the commitments made to the farmers at Chhattisgarh on waiving their loan.

“You can go to Punjab and Karnataka, we did the same (thing of keeping up the commitment),” he said.

During his visit to Goa, Rahul Gandhi will be addressing party workers’ convention in the evening and will also meet those dependent on the mining industry.
