Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins on Monday announced on
Twitter his decision to redirect his charity to the UNICEF Australia COVID-19
relief fund dedicated towards sending aid to India, instead of the PM CARES
fund.

“Terrific work @CricketAus. FYI I ended up allocating my
donation to UNICEF Australia’s India COVID-19 Crisis Appeal. If you’re able to,
please join many others in supporting this here”, his tweet read, retweeting a
statement by Cricket Australia on its partnership with Australian Cricketers
Association and UNICEF to gather funds for COVID-19 relief.

Cummins, in an earlier tweet, had noted that he would be
donating his $50,000 to help with meeting oxygen requirement in COVID-devastated
India, before adding that his money will be going to the PM CARES fund.

Several comments featured below the tweet had asked the player
to reroute his donation to any other fund or charity organisation.

“Thank you Pat. You’re a great guy. Just that don’t put the
money in PM Cares. Repeated RTIs have led to the open announcement that it’s
not accountable to anyone and any funds allocation won’t be disclosed. Pls
donate to any of the other numerous charities that are accountable”, said a
tweet by stand-up comic Abijit Ganguly.

“Why would you pay to pmcares? He is already not sharing
that money with people. It is a private fund with no auditing”, said another user.

The pacer’s IPL side, KKR, meanwhile had their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore cancelled on Monday, after two of their players tested COVID-19 positive.
