Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took a dig at ‘career protesters’, calling them ‘par jeevis’ (winged creatures) who fly from one protest to another. He was speaking in the Rajya Sabha on the farmers’ protest during the motion of thanks to the President’s speech.

“We have all heard of shram jeevis (workers) and Buddhi jeevis (intellectuals)  but now a new jamaat (group) of people have emerged. They are called andolanjeevis (protesters). Their job is to move from one protest to another… they are par jeevis,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister was speaking on the new farm laws and the protests that they have triggered with farmers seeking repeal of the laws.

“They (protesters) will be seen at all protests, they cannot live without protests, all they do is give ideological spin to everything” he added. The Prime Minister said that there was a need to locate  these people and the country should be wary of such ‘andolan jeevis.’

PM Modi also gave a new twist to the acronym FDI, saying that the term has a new meaning now. “The nation is making progress and we are talking about FDI but I see that a new FDI has come to the fore. We have to protect the nation from this new FDI. We need Foreign Direct Investment but the new FDI is ‘Foreign Destructive Ideology’, we have to protect ourselves from it,” the PM said.
