Hindi Diwas, celebrated on September 14, commemorates the adoption of Hindi in Devanagari script as one of the official language of India. It was adopted as one of the two official languages of India by Constituent Assembly of India due to the efforts of Beohar Rajendra Simha along with Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Kaka Kalelkar, Maithili Sharan Gupt and Seth Govind Das.

On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and thanked all the contributors working to promote the language. He wrote, “Wish you all the very best on Hindi Day. My heartiest congratulations to all the linguists who contributed to the development of Hindi on this occasion.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was admitted to AIIMS on Saturday night, also extended his wishes on the occasion. He wrote, “Today, on the occasion of Hindi Day, I salute all the dignitaries who have contributed to its empowerment. I call upon the countrymen to contribute more to promote their mother tongue by using Hindi more and more with their mother tongue. Take a pledge. Happy Hindi Day.”

He added, “Hindi is an unbreakable part of Indian culture. It has been an effective and powerful medium of national unity and identity since the freedom struggle. The greatest strength of Hindi is that it is scientific, original and simple. With the new education policy of Modi government, there will be parallel development of Hindi and other Indian languages.”

Shah said, “A country is identified by its border and geography, but its biggest identity is its language. The various languages and dialects of India are his strength as well as a symbol of his unity. In India, which is full of cultural and linguistic diversity, ‘Hindi’ has been working to unify the whole nation in centuries.”
