Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the new Defence Offices Complex in the national capital. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Chief of the Army Staff General MM Naravane were also present at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occassion, the Prime Minister said that Delhi is progressing with the vision of ‘New India’. 

“Today Delhi is progressing in line with ‘New India’ vision. These new Defence Office Complexes will now make it feasible for our armies to operate in better working conditions with all modern amenities,” ANI quoted him as saying.

He also said that the construction work for the project was scheduled to be completed in 24 months, but it was completed in half that time, which said was a record. 

He also took a dig at the Opposition, saying that when they were criticising the construction of the Central Vista project, they never mentioned the Defence Office Complexes as they knew their falsity would be exposed. 

“Today the country can see, what exactly we are aiming to achieve with the Central Vista project,” he added. 

Rajnath Singh said the complex was in dire need of a revamp and that modern amenities have been provided at this new facility, located at Delhi’s Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Africa Avenue and which can accomodate over 7,000 people.

“Previous buildings were in a tattered state, affected working conditions of our officers. Optimum utilisation of space was not done, which is why this complex has been brought up. Over 7,000 workers can be accommodated in good working conditions,” The Defence Minister said.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also launched the Central Vista website. 

“When we are focusing on ease of living and ease of doing business, modern infrastructure plays an equally important role. This is the idea behind the work that is being done in the development of Central Vista,” PM Modi said, adding that contruction of the new Parliament building will be done ahead of scheduled time.
