Born on April 14, 1891 in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was the key architect of the Indian Constitution and a strong advocate for Dalit rights. His birth anniversary is celebrated every year to revere and honour his numerous contributions to uplift the country and free it from the shackles of colonialism.

After years of experiencing discrimination for belonging to the Mahar caste, an untouchable community in Hinduism, Ambedkar converted to Buddhism in Nagpur on October 14, 1956.
