Poila Baishakh, or the Bengali New Year, is being celebrated on Thursday. Tech giant Google is celebrating this auspicious occasion with a special doodle. It shows two hands decorating the mask with blue, green and red colours. Among one of the two figures is that of the royal Bengal tiger.

Google wrote, “Whether, at home or abroad, Bengalis worldwide warmly greet each other with Shubho Nabobarsho the customary way to wish each other a prosperous and Happy New Year..”

Google doodle, which was first introduced on August 30, 1998, is a special temporary alternation of a logo on Google’s homepage that is intended to celebrate people, holidays, achievements and events.

One of the most traditional Poila Boishakh celebrations commences after dawn underneath an ancient Banyan tree at Dhaka’s Ramna Park. Institute of Fine Art at Dhaka Univesity begins a carnival procession, called Mongol Shobhajatra. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Poila Boishakh celebrations will be toned down.
