According to HRC Foundation, there are over two million transgender people across the United States (US). Their ostracism and lack of inclusiveness in society are often talked about. One of the first things the US President Joe Biden had promised to change before he took oath as the president, was the lack of diversity in the cabinet.

We have not only seen the most diverse and inclusive cabinet in the US history ever since, it has also seen the emergence of number of politicians from the transgender community.  

Danica Roem

Roem is a journalist and politician of the Democratic Party from the US. In 2017, she became the first openly transgender lawmaker in the country. She was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. She also went on to become the first transgender politician to win re-election in 2019.

Sarah McBride

McBride is an activist and politician from the US. She is a member of the Democratic Party and a member of the Delaware Senate since January 2021. She is currently the highest-ranked elected transgender official in the country. She was elected in November 2020 and chairs the Health and Social Services Committee.

Honey Mahogany

Mahogany is a singer, drag performer, activist and politician from the US. She is also the first openly transgender person of colour to be elected for a post in California. She was elected to the Democratic County Central Committee in March 2020. She was also elected as the party chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party in May 2021.

Stephanie Byers

Byers is an educator and a politician in the US. In November 2020, she was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives. Formerly, a music teacher, Byers is now a member of the Chickasaw Nation. She entered politics in 2019 and became the first openly transgender official to be elected in Kansas.

Brianna Titone

Titone is a scientist and a politician from the US, who currently serves as a member of the Colorado House of representatives from the 27th district. She is also the first openly transgender legislator in Colorado.
