Developers of the popular battle
royale game PUBG decide to terminate its low-end version called PUBG Lite globally. The
app was introduced for mobile devices on September 2, 2019 and it
will shut down on April 29, 2021 (UTC). On September 2, 2020, the Indian
government banned both PUBG Mobile as well as PUBG Mobile Lite on Google Play
as well as on App Store.

Krafton developers confirmed the news of
PUBG Lite shut down via a message on its official website. They appreciated the
love and support the app got from the fans and hoped that it was able to
provide fun during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company informed that the
services of the PUBG Lite app is scheduled to end on 29th April,
2021 (UTC).

PUBG Lite was among the
most popular and trending games in the early months of the pandemic. PUBG Lite’s
Facebook account will remain active even after the termination of the game until
further notice.

India banned the game
under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. PUBG Corporation later
announced the withdrawal of Tencent from the partnership to work with the
Indian government to look for a quick resolution because of the large user base
in India.

PUBG has more than 600 million downloads registered with more than 50
million active players over the world and had nearly 33 million active users in
India.
