The Indian National Congress (INC) has released its third list of eight candidates for the Punjab assembly elections. The current Chief Minister of the state, Charanjit Singh Channi, was supposed to contest from the Chamkaur Sahib seat, but will now be contesting from the Bhadaur constituency as well. Notably, Channi had contested the Punjab elections from Chamkaur Sahib in 2017 as well.

As per the new announcement, Tarsem Singh Sialka will contest from Attari, Sukhpar Singh Bhullar from Khem Karan, Satbir Singh Saini Balichiki from Nawan Shahr, and Ishwarjot Singh Cheema from Ludhiana South. Also contesting are Mohan Singh Phalianwala from the Jalalabad seat, Manish Bansal from Barnala and Vishnu Sharma from Patiala.

The earlier announcements clarified that Navjot Singh Sidhu will contest from Amritsar East, deputy Chief Ministers Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Om Prakash Soni stand from Dera Baba Nanak and Amritsar Central respectively. Sidhu Mussewala, who is a newcomer to Congress, is contesting from Mansa, and Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika Sood stands from Moga.

Pratap Singh Bajwa, the Rajya Sabha MP, will be contesting the upcoming elections from Qadian in Gurdaspur. While Sunil Jakhar will not be contesting this election, his nephew Sandeep Jakhar stands from Abohar instead.

The rest of the names include Manpreet Singh Badal from Bathinda Urban, Vijay Inder Singla from Sangrur, Razia Sultana from Malerkotla, Gurkirat Singh Kotli from Khanna, Rana Gurjit Singh from Kapurthala, Tript Rajinder Bajwa from Fatehgarh Churian, Randeep Singh Nabha from Amloh, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring from Gidderbaha, Pargat Singh from Jalandhar Cantt.

The 117-seat assembly election in Punjab will witness polling take place on February 20. It was initially supposed to be held on February 14 in a single phase but was postponed due to Guru Ravidas’ birth anniversary. Votes will be counted and results announced on March 10, 2022.
