Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, shared some shocking revelations about the Royal family in an interview with Oprah Winfrey early on Monday morning (IST). Breaking down on some occasions, the Duchess also shared how her son Archie%u2019s dark skin tone was a topic of discussion for ‘some members’ of the royal family, and how her sister-in-law Kate Middleton allegedly made her cry just before the wedding.

Isn%u2019t this story perfect for the small screen’s masala saas-bahu saga?

The highly anticipated Meghan Markle and Prince Harry%u2019s interview with Oprah Winfrey did what it was expected to do – It shook not just the Royals but people across geographies, and it definitely gave enough fodder to set the social media on fire.

While watching this highly intriguing interview, the one plot that kept on making thought balloon emojis in my mind was of a clich saas-bahu saga where a torturous mother-in-law tries every way possible to put down her daughter-in-law with the latter, after suffering a lot, finally speaks up. She speaks about the atrocities that she had to go through, she speaks about mental trauma, she speaks about suicidal thoughts, she speaks about how nobody helped, and how she did everything to protect ‘her’ family and kids. This saga has had all the elements needed for a perfect masala TV drama.

This interview reminded many of Princess Diana%u2019s 1995 interview with Martin Bashir of BBC, but my mind traversed through the whole range of soap operas and their popular characters that have dominated the Indian households for decades.

Now, I am taking creative liberty to draw a parallel between some of the iconic characters of Indian TV industry and the Royals. (Disclaimer: All for fun, no offence here)

Queen Elizabeth as Baa from %u2018Kyunki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi%u2019: Baa was the most senior member of Virani family but with hardly any voice. She was highly respected by the family and that%u2019s all about it. Did she come to rescue her bahus when needed? Well you know the answer.

Meghan Markle  as all those Tulsis, Parvatis and Juhis: A perfect wife, a loving mother and a silent daughter-in-law till the time the ‘limit’ is crossed and she had to show the ‘other’ side of her to save her family and the identity of her child.

Prince Harry as loving and obedient husband just like Arnav Singh Raizada of %u2018Iss Pyar ko Kya naam Du or Kartik of %u2018Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai%u2019: The leading couple of this show always managed to set the stage on fire with their adorable chemistry, just like Meghan and Harry. Aren’t they adorable too? The way they held each other%u2019s hand during the interview with Oprah, and Harry crediting Meghan for ‘saving him’ were absolute ‘awww(e)’ moments during the interview.

Archie: Well what to say about him.. He is the child of one the powerful couples and that makes him special and the centrepoint of the saga.

Kate Middleton as jethani of %u2018Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’:  You remember Rasode mein kaun tha  dialogue and the remix version of it? In this show, the character of jethanis  are those who are caring and sometimes harsh after all the relationship of devrani and jethanis are like that no?

Prince Williams as loyal and silent husbands of Jethanis: That%u2019s how the TV shows reflect these characters as someone who is silent. Did you notice camera focuses on them for few seconds for one expression and that’s it ?

Prince Charles: Ab inki kya baat karein? How many of you remember the male senior lead on Indian small screen? Well it%u2019s more about Baas like we said before

So here we are .. if you agree then we are happy and if not then sorry for messing up with your beautiful memories related to this interview.
