Every year on March 30, Rajasthan Day is observed throughout the state to commemorate the establishment of the state of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is India‘s largest state by area and seventh-largest by population.

That’s because the state, once known as Rajputana, was established on this date in 1949.

The British gave the region the name Rajputana. Rajasthan was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru on April 18, 1948, following the merger of various princely republics.

The modern state of Rajasthan encompasses the majority of Rajputana, which included the former nineteen princely states, two chiefships, and the British district of Ajmer-Merwara. Some of the major Rajput princely states were Jaisalmer, Marwar (Jodhpur), Bikaner, Mewar (Chittorgarh), Alwar, and Dhundhar (Jaipur).

Bharatpur and Dholpur were Jat princely kingdoms, whilst Tonk was a Pathan princely state.

A celebration of the state’s founding day will be held today at Albert Hall in Jaipur by the state government. Every year, events are organised, and people participate in cultural programmes and traditional folk arts. The holiday is observed throughout the state.

Rajasthan is India’s largest state by area and seventh-largest by population. It encompasses the majority of the vast and unforgiving Thar Desert and shares a border with the Pakistani provinces of Punjab to the northwest and Sindh to the west, which run along the Sutlej-Indus River valley.
