Indian
Railways has brought in a new surprise for its passengers. Indian Railways’ flagship train, the Rajdhani Express, will run on push-pull technology from Mumbai to New Delhi will now be operating on a daily basis. 

Train
number 22221/22222 Rajdhani Express is India’s first train to run on the
push-pull technology, giving a boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mission
Raftaar’.

The train underwent its inaugural run on January 19, 2019 and operates under the
Central Railway Zone.

The train used to run biweekly, departing from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus
(CSMT) station every Wednesday and Saturday and reaching its destination, Hazrat
Nizamuddin station in Delhi in over 19 hours halting at Nasik Road, Jalgaon,
Kalyan, Jhansi, Bhopal as well as Agra Cantt. railway stations.

The train
acclaimed such a welcoming response within less than a month of its launch that
that two additional coaches- AC 2-Tier and AC 3-Tier were added. It was a boon
for those staying in the Central suburbs beyond Thane and Kalyan, since it
offered the passenegers an option to travel in Rajdhani Express with a boarding
facility at Kalyan.

As the
COVID-19 lockdown began to open, the Central Railways had begun the Rajdhani
Express service again as a special train. It ran four days a week, and from
January 9, 2021, the Gwalior was added as a stop-station.

The
Central Railway said at present, this train would depart from CSMT at 4.00 pm
daily and arrive at Hazrat Nizamuddin at 9.55 AM next day. The Rajdhani
Express, in the return journey, would start from Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin railway
station at 4.55 PM daily and reach CSMT station at 11.15 AM the next day.

Passengers
can book their tickets online on the IRCTC website. Passengers carrying
confirmed tickets will be allowed to board the train, the Central Railway
added.
