The counting of votes for the Rajya Sabha elections are underway across four states and the winners will be announced by the end of the day. On Friday, as many as sixteen Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra and Karnataka went to polls amid allegations of misconduct and horse-trading.

The elections were necessitated as the number of candidates exceeded the seats going to the polls. The Election Commission had appointed special observers to ensure fair conduct of the elections, along with video recording of the entire process.

So far, only Rajasthan and Karnataka has declared the winners and Congress is in the lead with three seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has bagged one seat in Rajasthan. In Karnataka, BJP bagged 3 seats and the Congress managed to grab 1 seat.

Meanwhile, the counting for Rajya Sabha elections in Maharashtra was delayed after the BJP raised objections to the votes cast by three MLAs of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), alleging violation of rules.
