Farmers, who are participating in ‘Delhi Chalo’ agitation over farm laws that were passed by the Centre in September, will not go to Burari ground, and instead gherao Delhi by blocking 5 main entry points to Delhi, said Surjeet S Phul, Bhartiya Kisan Union’s Punjab president said on Sunday.

Rejecting the Centre’s proposal of holding talks, Phul said the condition put forward for talks is an insult to farmers, who have been staying put at the national capital’s border for four days.

“We do not accept the condition of their (govt) proposal. We are ready to talk but will not accept any condition now,” Gurnam Singh Chadhoni, Haryana unit president for the Bhartiya Kisan Union.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had offered the protesting farmers to hold talks with the government on December 3 after they shift to Burari ground.

BKU’s Phul said that farmers will never go to Delhi’s Burari  and “will block all five entry points to Delhi.” We’ve got 4 months ration with us, so nothing to worry about. Our Operations Committee will decide everything,” Phul said.

Darshan Pal, Punjab president of Krantikari Kisan Union, said, “The government has invited us to talk with conditions. The environment should be created for a conversation. We will not talk if there are any conditions”.

A delegation of the farmers has been invited for a discussion on December 3, he said, adding now that some of their unions have demanded that talks should be held immediately, the central government is ready to do so as soon as the protesters shift to the ground in Burari.

Phul added that the agitating farmers will not allow any political party leader to speak on their stage, be it Congress, BJP or AAP or any other party, ANI reported. “Our Committee will allow other organisations, who are supporting us to speak if they follow our rules,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Shah said that he never called the farmers’ protest ‘politically motivated’.
