India is remembering Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, known as the ‘Missile Man’ and regarded as the ‘People’s President’ on his 5th death anniversary on Monday. He died of cardiac arrest on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong at the age of 83. To mark the occasion we share with you some of his unseen pictures.

Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu
He started his career at DRDO in 1958 after graduating from the Madras Institute of Technology.
He supervised the Pokhran-II nuclear tests and was instrumental in putting the Rohini-I satellite in low-earth orbit 
He was chosen as the 11th President of India in 2002
He has honorary doctorates from 48 universities and institutions from India and abroad
He once said, “You have to dream before your dreams can come true.”
