After facing backlash from many Indians over supporting the farmers’ movement, Rihanna is again under scrutiny in India after an NGO has filed a complaint against her make up brand for using child labour from India. The complaint was filed by NGO Legal Rights Observatory and later, taken up by the National Commission For Protection of Child Rights(NCPCP).

Allegedly, Rihanna’s beauty brand, ‘Fenty Beauty’ uses mica from Indian mines in Chattisgarh where child labours work in very poor conditions.

According to the complaint, ‘Fenty Beauty’ does not have the Supply Chain Clearance Certificate that is required to make sure that the mica used is free of child labour. Filing the complaint, the NGO has demanded an investigation to find out if Rihanna’s beauty brand is attaining mica through illegal means.

The National Commission For Protection of Child Rights(NCPCP) has also confirmed after contacting the Responsible Mica Initiative(RMI), a ‘global do-tank’ that ensures safe and responsible use of Mica, that Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty is not registered with the latter.
