On Friday, a court in Delhi became a murder scene after three people, including a one of the most notorious gangsters in the national capital, were shot dead. 

Two gunmen entered inside Rohini District Court, dressed up as lawyers, and shot Jitender Maan alias ‘Gogi’. The two assailants were then shot dead by the Delhi Police in an encounter following the shooting.

Probe revealed that the two assailants belonged to the Tillu gang, which is another notorious criminal group in Delhi.

The story of childhood friends-turned foes

Gogi was a resident of Alipore area of Delhi-Haryana border. In the last 10 years, he has been accused of several crimes, including murder. He and Sunil Maan, now known as Tillu Tajpuria, went to the same college and were very close friends since childhood. They got involved in student politics and their friendship turned sour when they stood by different candidates in the 2008 Delhi University Students Union elections. 

Gogi then got involved in several crimes and went on to join with Kuldeep Fajja, a criminal who he first met in college.

After the killing of Neetu Dabodia in 2013, a competition began for the post of top gangster in Delhi. Gogi and Tillu, who had both become established criminals by then, began fighting it out for the post and things got bloody. Both gangs would even fights on streets of the national capital, resulting in the death of several people in both gangs. In 2018, three people from Tillu’s gang were killed and in March this year, Gogi’s close confidant Monu Mann was murdered. 

In March 2020, Gogi was taken into custody for his involvement in killing of a Haryana-based singer. However, he allegedly continued his operations behind bars.

Meanwhile, Tillu gang had been planning to eliminate Gogi for a long time and was waiting for a chance to execute the plan.

On Friday, both Gogi and a member of the Tillu gang were to be presented in Rohini District Court. When cops took Gogi inside the courtroom, the two assailants, dressed up as lawyers, opened fire, killing Gogi on the spot. The gunmen too were shot dead inside the courtroom by the Delhi Police.
