Sadhna Gupta, the wife of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, died at Gurugram’s Medanta hospital on Saturday.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya offered condolences.

“Received the sad news of the demise of Smt. Sadhna Gupta, wife of former Chief Minister Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav ji, may the Lord give place to the holy soul at his feet. Give courage to respected Shri Mulayam Singh ji and his family members to bear this loss. peace peace peace,” Maurya wrote on Twitter (in hindi). 

Gupta was the second wife of Mulayam Singh Yadav. She was suffering from lung infection and was undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. The SP founder, who served for three non-consecutive terms as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, had visited her in the hospital.

Sadhna Gupta, a resident of Bidhuna Tehsil of Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, got married to Chandraprakash Gupta of Farrukhabad in 1986. The two had a son together – Prateek Yadav. They seperated after two years. 

Malti Devi was Mulayam Singh’s first wife and the mother of SP leader Akhilesh Yadav. She died in 1999. 

As per Aaj Tak reports, Sadhna Gupta took care of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s mother Murti Devi at a nursing home in Lucknow when she was ill.

“The sad news has been received of the demise of Mata ji Smt. Sadhna Gupta ji, the wife of the most respected leader, Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav. May God grant peace to the virtuous soul! Om Shanti Om,” Samajwadi Party’s National Working committee member Avantika Tandon tweeted. 

The year of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sadhna Gupta’s marriage is not known. However, according to reports, Sadhna is 20 years younger than Yadav, who is 82 years old.

According to ABP News, Prateek’s school form in 1994 had MS Yadav mentioned as his father.
