Salman Khan, who will soon be seen in Farhad Samji’s ‘Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali’, has applied for a gun licence, NDTV reported citing sources. The Bollywood star’s alleged decision comes about a month after he and his father Salim Khan recieved a death threat.

In early June, days after the killing of Punjab rapper-politican Sidhu Moosewala, Salman Khan and his father received an anonymous letter threatening to kill them.

Salim Khan was sitting on a bench at the Bandra Bandstand, which is his routine, after a morning walk when an unidentified man handed him a letter which mentioned a threat to kill Salim and Salman, the official said.

An FIR was registered under section 506-II (Criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Bandra police station. Police also took Lawrence Bishnoi’s, gangster who took responsibility of Moosewala’s killing, statement in the matter.

According to a police source, cited by PTI, the letter said, “Salim Khan, Salman Khan Bahot Jald Aapka Mooselwala Hoga G.B L.B… (Salim Khan, Salman Khan, very soon you will meet Moosewala’s fate.)” It is speculated that G. B. and L. B. may refer to gangsters Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi.

Bishnoi had threatened to kill Salman in 2018 too. His death threat then was linked to the actor’s black buck poaching case of 1998.

Salman Khan on Friday met Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar at the latter’s office in south Mumbai, officials said.

The actor arrived at the Mumbai police headquarters, located opposite Crawford Market, in his car around 4 PM and met Phansalkar, an official said, adding that it was just a courtesy visit and had nothing to do with any case.

Khan also met Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vishwas Nangre Patil there.

As per NDTV sources, the actor wants to own a gun to protect himself and his family. “His visit to the police headquarters was for physical verification before the licensing authority, a mandatory step in applying for a gun licence,” sources said.
