The Supreme Court on Wednesday will hear former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh’s petition challenging his transfer and seeking a probe by the CBI into extortion allegations against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
Singh on Saturday accused the Maharashtra HM of extortion and said he has asked now-suspended and arrested Mumbai cop, Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore per month from hotels and bars, including Rs 40-50 crore from around 1,750 bars and restaurants in Mumbai.

Singh’s allegations, which have been refuted by Deshmukh, came days after he was transferred for mishandling the bomb scare outside Mukesh Ambani’s residence. After the allegations, Deshmukh on Saturday said he will file a defamation case against Singh.
The plea also seeks a stay on Singh’s transfer from Mumbai to a low-key post in Maharashtra Police’s Home Guards.

The former Mumbai police commissioner has repeated his allegations against Deshmukh, which was sent in an eight-page letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, in his petition. A two-judge bench, comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and R Subhash Reddy, will hear Singh’s plea on Wednesday.
Singh claimed that he was ousted immediately after he accused Deshmukh of corruption in front of Thackeray, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and other senior leaders.
In his petition, filed through advocate Abhinay, Singh said, “The petitioner has invoked writ jurisdiction of this Hon’ble Court to seek unbiased, uninfluenced, impartial and fair investigation in the corrupt malpractices of Shri Anil Deshmukh, the Hon’ble Home Minister of Government of Maharashtra, before the evidence are destroyed.”
